After bail has been posted, it is absolutely vital that you are aware of every mandatory court appearance and that you are able to make each one. This can become complicated if your car has been impounded. Having your primary form of transportation impounded is not only inconvenient, but is can be expensive as well. In Florida, law enforcement officers can impound your car for many different reasons, including if you were arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and no one was available to drive it for you, if the vehicle contains potential evidence, or if the car owner has multiple outstanding traffic tickets.

When you are arrested and your car is towed to an impound lot, the police officer will write an impound report, which should include details such as why it was impounded, property inside the vehicle, where it was towed to and from, and the duration of time that it will be kept at the impound lot.

The vehicle owner will receive a notice in the mail within a week of impoundment. The notice will include information such as where the car is being stored and under what conditions it will be released to the owner. Proof of payment to the police department for storage, towing, and citation fees is generally required.
